Welcome to our "updating" website! We have MUCH to tell that has never been told, and I want to share CRP's story with you in ways that are both enjoyable and informative. Our 22 years of Hands-on and Hearts Open Environmental Stewardship include extensive and specialized cleaning of waterways and surrounding land masses, BUT they also include community outreach and the engendering of Environmental Awareness through school visits, fundraising programs and river cruises for both education and enjoyment.

I grew up living right on the Merrimack River and even though as an adult I moved away from the area, the River always "called" me back, tugging at my heartstrings with a deep concern for its health and safety. Twenty two years after originating CRP, I am still driven to expand and improve what CRP has done CONSISTENTLY as an Environmental nonprofit 501(c)(3).

In 2005, when the River was at one of its worst states I was not only amazed, but thoroughly disgusted, at the amount of trash build-up within the banks and bushes of the river. Car engines, household appliances, furniture, construction barrels, and thousands of tires, to name just SOME of the debris, that were in spots, several layers thick.

Trying to recreate on the river and seeing nothing being done about this problem, my wife and I decided to take action and get involved. We came up with the idea of having a scavenger hunt with our fellow boaters; an event that would be fun and interesting and at the same time help to get the River cleaner. Boaters who participated in the event were given the challenge of retrieving as much debris and trash as possible. We used a point system for the various types of trash collected. Those with the most points were awarded prizes donated by local businesses. In the end, a grand total of 300 tires, two 30-yard dumpsters full of trash, furniture, car parts, appliances, and more were removed from the Merrimack River. Everyone who was there that day agreed that more had to be done. I became bitten by the "trash bug" and Clean River Project was "born".

While maintaining my full-time job with my construction company, I began CONSISTENTLY tending the river and its problems. I had to be RESISTANT to the many comments from those telling me I could never accomplish what I was trying to do. I kept moving along, experimenting with equipment, building my own boats and figuring out how to keep funds coming and interest growing to support all of the negativity and doubt that came my way.

But, with the help of some wonderful people and all of our PERSISTENT effort as a group, CRP kept going and growing ... and still does today ... even as a nonprofit 501(c)(3).

So I hope you will explore our new website (even as it is in rebuild mode) and discover more about our vision and hope for the future. Through meeting the team and seeing much more of CRP's work through these pages we intend to make it clear where we are going with our Environmental Stewardship vision as well as make it clear WHY CONSISTENT, RESISTANT, and PERSISTENT life practices can truly help make a huge difference for all of us. Roland has been a dedicated friend on many levels, knowing the Merrimack and community well. CRP has been very fortunate to have him on the Board as Vice President. His patience and strong understanding of business is an invaluable asset to CRP.

Our newest board member, Mike has held a passionate caring for  the Merrimack for over 30 years. His experience in teaching and assisting others to learn reading make him a wonderful addition to CRP's team in regard to problem solving and community outreach.
